About the event
Join us on Fri, Sep 12 at 10:30 am in room 306 as we discuss “Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand” by Helen Simonson.
Simonson captures Britain in the years after WWII in this tale of an Army Major (retired) born in Lahore and village shopkeeper Mrs. Ali born in Cambridge. When they establish a friendship born of their love of literature and a sorrow over the loss of their spouse, the village insists on seeing the Major as the quintessential Britisher and Mrs. Ali as the permanent foreigner. Told with wry humor and gentle wisdom, obligation and tradition, the story explores the risks of pursuing happiness in a society of regimentation.
All ladies are welcome even if you haven’t read the book!
