American Dirt is the story of a mother and son fleeing a drug cartel in Mexico and hoping to gain safety in America. The novel follows the pair as they flee by car, train, walking, the top of a train and finally walking through the desert always followed by the nightmare of grief, accompanied by human kindness, and pursued by a murderous gang of drug lords.
