Before joining St. Thomas UMC in 2020, Pastor Arum served Graham Road UMC in the Arlington District, and also Atlantic UMC, Berea UMC, and on the District staff in the Eastern Shore District. She is passionate about building a church as a place for all generations where new disciples, both young & old, are continuously born and raised and the Christian heritage is passed on to the next generations.
Arum was born and raised in the Seoul Metropolitan Area, South Korea. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biomaterial Science and Engineering from Seoul National University in Seoul, South Korea, and a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering from University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. When God called her to ministry, she went to Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. where she received a Master of Divinity. She was ordained as an Elder of The Virginia Conference of The United Methodist Church in July 2021..
Arum lives in Springfield with her husband Joon Shin, their two young daughters Virginia and Charlotte, and two giant cats. Joon is working as a sales engineer for a cyber security company in Arlington. Arum likes to spend time with her family and enjoys cooking, trying new food, raising a small vegetable garden, traveling to new places, and watching Korean TV shows.
