Hello, my name is Teresa Rook. I am excited to work with your children. I began working at Sunbeam Children’s center in 2004.I was born in Pennsylvania on September 12; I grew up in Falls Church Virginia. I got married in 1982 and have 6 children and 6 grandchildren. I moved to the City of Manassas in 1990, my children attended Weems, Metz, Osbourn and All Saints.I graduated from Bishop O’Connell High School. It was then that I began working in childcare. I began in child care centers, than became a Nanny. I graduated from Northern Virginia Community College (N.V.C.C) with an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education. I stayed home with my 6 children as I ran a licensed home childcare center. I have taken many training classes from the Fairfax county office for children, Prince William county social services, the Appelbaum training institute, corporate childcare consulting, Kinder Care Fairfax county library and I continue to take training.
Since I love children my hobbies naturally involve them. I was a Girl Scout leader and involved with the Cub and Boy Scouts for over 20 years. I enjoy taking pictures and making books for the children to read. Children love to see their name and pictures in books. I also enjoy the beauty of nature, the plants and animals are amazing to watch.
I believe children learn by exploring during play. Fine motor skills lead to writing. Large motor skills lead to balance and body control. The use of real (empty) containers and props allow for role-playing. Dressing up teaches the skills of dressing ourselves and role playing. Hand – eye coordination, math, working with others and language are just a few of the skills your child will learn while playing .
I believe that I plant the seeds of knowledge, parents and future teachers will continue to nourish and help them to grow.
