Prayer Guides

There are many different ways to pray. But among prayers for comfort, peace, and healing, there is also a type of prayer that leads to "breakthrough."  So, what is a breakthrough prayer and how do we pray for one?  As a community of faith, we are seeking a deeper level of spirituality and faith in Christ.  We long to see children, youth and adults seeking the heart of God through more intentional discipleship.  So, we are inviting our entire church to pray the prayer below.  You are invited to join us as we seek a breakthrough in this key area of our faith together.

Discernment Prayer

God of grace, we come before You in contrition and repentance. As we recognize the splendor of Your holiness, we are unmade before You because we are sinful and broken creatures who desperately need a Savior. Touch our lips with the flaming coal of your glory so that our iniquity will be taken away and our brokenness healed.  Set us apart for your work and guide us in your sanctifying grace.

God of wisdom, we seek your counsel in this time of discernment. The way before us is not clear because we see with the eyes of finite, fallen creatures. Grant to us Your vision and understanding that we may see the way You would have us walk, and guard our steps so that we would not stray from Your path.

God of compassion, lead us as we seek to understand what it means to love all those around us as we love ourselves, without exception. Open our hearts and minds that we will hear and learn from the tradition of our forbearers in the faith, from our own experience of living in a broken world, from our yielded and Spirit-led reason as we dialog with each other, and most importantly from the council of Your sacred and inspired Word.

God of all things, we enter into this time of seeking with both humility and boldness, secure in knowing that You will lead us to discover Your plan for our church as we seek You in a spirit of surrender and submission. This we covenant to do in the great name of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Breakthrough Prayer

Everlasting God, we know you are always with us. You have seen us through a difficult time of uncertainty and isolation, and by touching the hearts and minds of so many in our community of faith, you have enabled us to come together in new ways, allowing us to continue to worship you, to study your word and to serve those around us.

Inspire us to live more fully into our mission as a church: “We exist to reach, nourish, and serve the community so all may experience healing and new life through Jesus Christ.” May the work of the Adult Discipleship Team help each one of us to become more aware of our need for Jesus. Help this team to create a clear and effective discipleship pathway for people of all ages and stages of life.

Spark a deep desire in ALL OF US to be growing in our faith as disciples of Jesus Christ, being formed by the Word of God, and learning to integrate faith into all aspects of our lives. Holy Spirit, empower us now. Amen.

Daily Prayer of Examen

To be used at the end of the day, or first thing in the morning to review the previous day.

This prayer of review is a short reflection back over the day, recalling events and taking note of your feelings. The purpose is to become more aware of the ways in which God has been present to you, the times when the Holy Spirit was drawing you towards life.
